Mandelic acid has a larger molecular structure than other AHAs, which is why it penetrates the stratum corneum more slowly and requires a longer exposure time.

Glycolic acid is characterized by its small molecular size, which gives it great transepidermal penetration capacity. Its keratolytic activity favors the exfoliation of the superficial layers of the stratum corneum by altering the cohesion of the corneocytes. It stimulates cell regeneration, promotes the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, increases the hydration level of the epidermis and reinforces the skin’s natural barrier function. It favors the penetration of other acids.
